Ceiling fans are a practical means of creating airflow on a warm day. However, the ceiling fans with lights that are often used in new homes and known as "builder's grade", are generally considered unaesthetically pleasing and outdated for design purposes.
This doesn't mean that you should never use a ceiling fan with a light, but that the ceiling fan should generally not be your only lighting source (you should always have multiple lighting sources in a room anyway).
Here is a website, Fanimation, (http://www.fanimation.com/) with some great looking fans. Additionally, there are several retailers in Charlottesville that carry Fanimation products including two lovely vendors, Timberlake Lighting (http://timberlakelighting.com/ ) and Ferguson Lighting (http://www.ferguson.com/), who were both gracious enough to lend product to designers for this year's Design House.
Let's take a tour at some good fan choices for an updated look!
|Great texture to this fan and it coordinates with the tone of the wood bookcases. |
It also has an Asian feel to pickup on the look of the matching ottomans.
