Take a Seat

This post is dedicated to my client, Ann, who shared a humorous story with me about a friend asking if Ann sat down to get dressed.

At age 25 I would have laughed at this suggestion. At 50, I say, "Who doesn't sit down to get dressed? How many times do you have to fall on your face in the morning just putting on your pants?"

I know, a tad personal, but what other designer would admit this to you? Right, that's why you have me.

So yesterday, I very cleverly moved a beautiful antique chair into my walk-in closet. Why had this simple solution never occurred to me before? I had the chair in my bedroom where it appeared lost in the vastness and prior to that in the bathroom where it was always in the way. Finally, in my not-too-large closet it was like Goldilocks's porridge, just right.

While sitting on my chair, I can now reach my sock drawer, my shoes lined up on the floor, and my trousers hanging from the rod. Life just works out beautifully sometimes, doesn't it?

Have a look at some nifty chairs to add beauty and convenience to your life...

A nice, straight back Regency chair to get you started...

Here's a chair similar to mine...

Very sweet and will fit in a tight space...

Here's one with an Asian influence
(you can find this type at the Oyster House Antiques store
in Charlottesville on the downtown mall)...

A little farmhouse chair...

A seat with some curve to it...

Another perfectly good small scale chair...

You get the idea. We're not talking big, expensive upholstered chairs. Just a simple place to perch while attending to one's daily needs. You can pick up any of these chairs at an antique mall or used furniture store. If the slip-seat needs a fresh fabric, it's an inexpensive fix you can do yourself.

Let me know what you think! Until next time...

Pantone's Color of the Year 2015

Every year forecasters in color industries predict what is known as "the color of the year." Pantone, a global authority on color for interior design, fashion, and beauty, has just announced it's trendsetting color for 2015...

Pantone's Marsala Color of the Year 2015

Marsala is very dramatic in velvety fabrics...

The jewel tone is the star in this lovely floral arrangements
 and complements a brunette's coloring...

The cream colored trim and ceiling
tones down the richness of the red hue...

So what say you, yay or nay to Marsala for color of the year?
Can you see yourself using the color in your home this year? Let me know!

Until next time...

As some of my readers might recall from a previous Blog post, Studio Choo of San Francisco is one of my favorite floral design studios. Althea Harampolis and Jill Rizzo from Choo have out a new book titled The Wreath Recipe Book. You might also be interested in The Flower Recipe Book also by the Studio Choo gals. Both books contain instructions for crafting lovely natural arrangements.

Have a look at their talented work...

Here's the cover of the book...

I love the asymmetrical organic look of Studio Choo wreaths.
